BACKGROUND

Welcome to Modern Mufflers, one of the premier custom exhaust shops in the bay area.  We take pride in being known by over 100 auto repair shops in the south bay area as the shop to go to for quality repairs, solving unique exhaust problems, and building quality exhaust systems for classic and show quality cars and trucks.   Thousands of customers have relied on our honest recommendations for designing, fabricating, and repairing their exhaust systems. 

    THE OWNER

  Steve has been the primary technician since inception of the shop in 1999. He has advanced his technical knowledge base by participating in the De Anza College Auto Technology program.  He completed an A.S. Degree Auto Technology - Chassis and Powertrain and has been certified by the A.S.E. in Engine Repair, Brakes, Suspension and Steering, Automatic and Manual transmissions, Heating and Air Condioning, Electrical Systems, Engine Performance,  and oddly enough Exhaust Systems.  As a result, Steve is now an ASE Certified Master Technician.  He needs to complete one last requirement to earn an A.S. Degree Auto Technology - Advanced Engine Performance.

     Why is all of this training important?

  The answer is simple: So many of our customers have asked in the past what else we can do.  We chose not to offer any other services because we were not comfortable performing work that we had not received formal training to do and were unsure of how to do properly.  Consequently, we went to get the training.  Now we can offer the added services with confidence.  But more importantly, we understand the theory behind each of the systems.  We understand why repairs were needed and can explain it to the customer.  Having formal training enables the technician to understand diagnostic procedures and helps to isolate the cause of the problem.  This ultimately results in saving the customer money by not guessing at what components need to be replaced and how to actually fix the problem rather than treat the symptom.  For example, I frequently have customers who have been told to replace a catalytic converter.  After reviewing their smog test results, I sometimes find that they need to have diagnostics performed which results in repairing something else and not replacing the converter.
